During those years, paints were imported by dhow from Hempel’s factory in Kuwait, however the increasing demand and the unreliability of delivery together with the continuing economic growth of Bahrain was a deciding factor in establishing a manufacturing unit in the island. The Factory was built in Mina Salman and commissioned in December 1979.

H.E. Yousuf Al Shirawi, the Minister of Industry officially inaugurated the plant on 11th December 1979.The factory was a turning point to the development of Hempel Bahrain. Hempel was able to meet the ever increasing demand from the Industrial, Marine, Government and private housing sectors, at the same time offering our customers the complete extensive range of products coupled with the freshly produced paint.

Our continued growth over the years since production commenced has also been our ability to offer a complete service to the painting industry, consultants and specifying bodies, such as correct specifications, on site inspection and advice and also training seminars which have been held in order to improve knowledge of paint and its applications.

In fact many companies and Consultants on the island consult us regarding painting specifications in order to save both time and money, as our experience in the climatic conditions in the Gulf enable us to offer advice relevant to the area.

Again there came a time, even this factory and premises were not large enough to cope with the demand, production and storage and a new factory was built and commissioned during the year 1997 in another location of Mina Salman Industrial area. This Factory has a large showroom which also sells items such as brushes, rollers, stencils, wall paper, spraying equipment and various associated products used for painting, with an ample parking space for customers.

The Hempel product range which is produced in Bahrain Factory covers every aspect of protection and decoration such as epoxies, polyurethanes, emulsions, textured coatings, antifoulings, fire protective coatings etc. Whatever the requirement and whatever the surface, coatings are available. Also in most cases, the products are formulated to be applied and withstand the harsh climatic conditions of the Middle East.

Many products are available from various manufacturers in the world today, however very few have the in depth knowledge of the Gulf Region or have the technical backup services in the area to answer or solve problems. Hempel has been in the Gulf since 1966 and with five factories we are able to and can offer what others cannot.
