HEMPEL is a multinational company committed to being at the forefront of coating technology. Through our high standards of research, development and training we are able to continously offer new, safe products and solutions to our customers.

HEMPEL has invested heavily in research and development in order to solve tomorrow's problems. Stringent demands are put on testing of product performance and feed-back from practise in order to secure the most safe products and solutions.

Education/training is supported extensively in order to transfer our many years of knowledge to employees and customers all over the world. The Research and Development Centre in Copenhagen, Denmark comprises the most up-to-date facilities for paint research and encompasses all those disciplines which make HEMPEL a world leader in coatings engineering within the marine, container, yacht, protective and decorative coating segments. HEMPEL`s research and development efforts also include extensive external cooperation with universities, institutes and other relevant independent bodies.

Examples of the deciplines within coatings engineering encompasses:

• CORROSION PROTECTION
• POLYMER RESEARCH
• ANALYTICAL RESEARCH

The future

A painted surface may be found in all our daily activities, therefore, the paint system must serve the important functions of protecting the surface to which it is applied without contaminating the surrounding area. HEMPEL has over the years developed coating systems which fulfil both of these criteria and is fully aware that questions regarding environmental acceptability and protection free from problems form the keys to the future and must be addressed.

This is why HEMPEL is continuously investing in R&D.

Key areas of activities are:

• Reducing or eliminating solvents (water-borne or solvent-less systems)
• Increasing the solids content
• Replacing unacceptable compounds
• Formulating marine protection systems based on fouling release mechanisms

In addition HEMPEL has developed, and is continuously improving, systems which also satisfy the customers' exact requirements for more effective operations e.g.

• Faster processes in shipyards and shops
• Heavy duty coating applications
• Longer protection times
• New construction designs

All of these factors make HEMPEL a world leader within the coatings industry.
